Can p4 xeon support 4 cup on one mother board?  

if it cannot,  p3 700 *4 vs p4 2.8G *2
which is more powerful in practice ?

P4 Xeon 不支持4颗CPU并行， 最多只支持2颗， 但是P4 Xeon MP支持4颗CPU并行。 两者名字听着很像， 长的看起来也是一模一样（都是603 Pin的）， 但是价钱和性能差的远了。

P3 Xeon 700 x4 VS P4 Xeon 2.8G x2， 没法比较谁更powerful。 因为它们不是同一个级别的。 不同的处理器都是针对不同的应用和档次的。 具体要看你拿它干什么了， 如果只是做web server， FTP server， email server等Internet应用， 或者打打大游戏什么的， 当然是P4 Xeon 2.8G x2快一些了。 因为这些应用并不是很讲究多线程并行处理。 而你如果要运行一个大型数据库， 或搜索引擎， 或在线购物系统之类的， 那么P3 Xeon 700 x4 会表现出色的多。

Our university plan to upgrad the sql 2k server and current load can consume around 65% of the cup power excluding the peak hours.  Our assignment to evaluate the report of the upgradation plan.  
Our university current configuration is 4 * p3 700, 4G RAM, ( i donnot donnot what raid they are using)
